In 2016, Bruce Springsteen was picked by President Barack Obama to be a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest honor a civilian can receive. Springsteen’s recognition was due to his significant contributions in the national interests of the United States, world peace, and culture. Springsteen joined other celebrities such as Ellen DeGeneres, Tom Hanks, and Robert De Niro in receiving the prestigious award.
